πŸ’° The Honest Pricing Math

"But Don't Third-Party Installers Cost More?"

It is the most common objection we hear, usually from dealers who install in-house. Here is the actual arithmetic, with nothing hidden.

Where the Money Actually Goes

A generator project has two costs: the machine and the trade work. Dealers who do both in-house hand you one bundled number, which sounds simpler and hides which half carries the margin. In that model the equipment is marked up to fund a commissioned sales team, and the install labor is priced to keep crews busy year-round through a seasonal business. You cannot see either line, so you cannot compare either line.

Our model splits them on purpose. The equipment comes to you at factory-direct dealer pricing from a 501(c)(3) with no commissioned salespeople, so there is no markup funding a sales operation. The installation is quoted by an independent licensed contractor in your county at their competitive local rate, in a market where they are bidding against other contractors. Both numbers are itemized on the same page.

No commission layer

Nobody here is paid per sale or per size class. That is typically $2,000 to $4,000 on a five-figure project, and it is the single largest difference between our quotes and a commissioned dealer's.

βš–οΈ

Eight brands compete

A single-brand dealer's quote can only be their brand at their price. We quote Generac against Cummins against Briggs against Champion on the same page, so the equipment has to win on the numbers.

πŸ“‹

You can audit it

Because the equipment and the labor are separate lines, you can price-check each one independently. Bundled quotes are unauditable by design.

What You Give Up, Honestly

One company is one phone number, and that is a real convenience. With our model you have a supplier and a contractor, and we coordinate between them so you are not the middleman, but there are two names on the project rather than one. If having a single throat to choke matters more to you than seeing where every dollar went, an in-house dealer is a reasonable choice, and we will tell you that on the phone. What we will not do is pretend the bundled number is automatically lower, because in the quotes we review every week, it is not.

Send Us a Competing Quote

The fastest way to settle this is arithmetic on your actual house. Send any written quote to info@powerupgen.com and we will annotate what is included, what is missing, and what the same scope costs at nonprofit factory-direct pricing. If theirs is genuinely better for your situation, we will say so.

Pricing Model: Straight Answers

Is it cheaper to buy from a dealer who installs in-house?

Not usually, and the reason is where the margin sits. An in-house dealer sells you one brand and marks up the equipment to fund a sales force and install crews. We are a 501(c)(3) supplying eight brands at factory-direct cost with no commission layer, and the licensed contractor who installs bills you their competitive local rate directly. You see both numbers instead of one bundled figure.

Does using independent installers mean nobody is accountable?

The opposite. The contractor performing the work holds the state license, pulls the permit, passes the inspection, and carries the workmanship warranty in their own name. The equipment carries the manufacturer's warranty, which we register for you. Two accountable parties, each answerable for their own scope, both documented in writing.

Why would a nonprofit sell generators at all?

Because backup power is a safety product priced like a luxury one. Our 501(c)(3) structure removes the commission from the transaction and funds mission work like Project LifeLine, which puts backup power into low-income homes that run medical equipment. Tax ID 33-1354240.

How do I verify the savings claim?

Get a written itemized quote from any commissioned dealer and send it to us. We will annotate it line by line against factory-direct pricing on comparable equipment and put our number in writing. If we cannot beat it, we will tell you that too.
