Generator Installation — Frequently Asked Questions
How much does home generator installation cost?
Most residential installations fall between $8,000 and $15,000, with an average around $12,000. That price includes the generator unit, concrete pad, gas line work, automatic transfer switch, all permits, and labor. Because we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, every customer receives dealer cost pricing — typically $2,000 to $4,000 less than commercial competitors. Financing starts at $25 per month through our Synchrony partnership.
How long does generator installation take?
Our average timeline from initial consultation to final walkthrough is 2 to 3 weeks. The bulk of that time is permit processing, which varies by city from 1 day to 3 weeks. The physical installation typically takes 1 to 2 days once permits are in hand.
What is included in the installation price?
Everything needed for a complete, code-compliant installation: the generator unit, a poured concrete pad, gas line extension, automatic transfer switch, all electrical and plumbing work, permit fees, utility coordination, and a final owner walkthrough. Site prep costs are included regardless of the distance from your meter.
Will I need to upgrade my electrical panel?
Most customers do not need a panel upgrade. Our technicians evaluate your existing panel during the free on-site assessment. If an upgrade is warranted, we will tell you upfront before any work begins.
How does the permit process work?
We handle all permit applications on your behalf — electrical, plumbing, and HOA submissions where required. About 90% of our customers need at least one permit. Processing time varies by jurisdiction: some cities approve same-day, others take up to three weeks. We track every permit and schedule inspections directly, so you never have to deal with city offices.
Which generator brands do you install?
We are factory-authorized to install Generac, Cummins, Briggs and Stratton, Champion, and DuroMax generators. Our most popular residential sizes are 14 to 22 kW standby units. All technicians are factory-trained and recertified annually for every brand we sell.
